Büke Erkoç, the internationally acclaimed Turkish director, actor, and translator, is continuing her successful run in London with her captivating solo performance, “The Future Looks Bright.” Adapted from the novel Hanene Ay Doğacak (The Moon Will Rise Over Your House) by prominent Turkish writer Şebnem İşigüzel, the English-language play is a significant cultural event for the Turkish community and theater enthusiasts in the city.
The powerful show, which had its world premiere in London, is scheduled for further performances as part of the Voila Theatre Festival on November 13 and 15 at various alternative London venues.
“The Future Looks Bright” is a poignant and thought-provoking one-woman show that explores the internal reckoning of an immigrant woman confronting her past suicide attempts and her life in exile. The performance delves into deep themes such as grief, belonging, trauma, and the complex socio-economic and cultural codes passed down through generations, offering a poetic perspective on the invisible burdens carried by those navigating a life away from home.
Erkoç, who both directs and performs the piece, is also the founder of the London-based production company NOK NOK!, and is consistently praised for successfully bringing Turkish art and stories to the international stage.
The show has received positive reviews from international critics and is highly recommended for members of the Turkish community looking to engage with a powerful artistic reflection on shared experiences of migration and survival.
