In a strategic move to optimize its UK network, Turkish Airlines (THY) has unveiled a significant reorganization of its London flight operations for the Summer 2026 season. The national flag carrier is set to shift its focus by increasing frequencies at Gatwick and reintroducing services to Stansted, while temporarily adjusting its presence at London Heathrow.
Starting March 29, 2026, THY will launch 14 weekly flights from London Stansted to Istanbul. This marks a historic return to the airport for the first time since 2009. The new service is expected to provide much-needed relief and more convenient travel options for the large Turkish community residing in Enfield, Haringey, and Hackney, who often find North and East London airports more accessible.
The reorganization comes as THY prepares to return eight weekly slots at London Heathrow to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). These slots had been leased to the Turkish carrier while PIA was barred from UK airspace. With the lifting of these restrictions, PIA will reclaim the slots to relaunch its Islamabad–London Heathrow service.
Despite the temporary capacity reduction at Heathrow, Turkish Airlines aims to reach a record-breaking 14 daily flights from London across all three major airports. This includes:
Heathrow: Maintaining a high frequency of approximately 45 weekly flights.
Gatwick: Sustaining a strong presence with 28 weekly services, benefiting residents in Southwark and Lambeth.
Stansted: The new daily double service (14 weekly flights) using A321 aircraft.
The addition of Stansted as a third London gateway is a "major milestone" according to airport officials. Mehmet Gurulkan, Turkish Airlines' General Manager for London, stated that the move strengthens the airline's commitment to the UK market and provides passengers with greater connectivity to over 350 global destinations via the Istanbul hub.
For the Turkish diaspora in Newham and Redbridge, the expansion offers competitive alternatives and potentially more flexible departure times. Business travelers in Westminster and Camden will also benefit from the diverse airport options, ensuring that Istanbul remains one of the most well-connected cities from the British capital.
