Turkish Airlines (THY) has confirmed a temporary reorganization of its London operations for the Summer 2026 schedule. The adjustment involves a strategic shift in airport slots and flight frequencies, aimed at optimizing its network while maintaining its overall capacity in the UK capital.
As part of the new arrangement, THY will temporarily return eight weekly slots at London Heathrow Havalimanı to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). This change is slated to begin with the summer flight schedule on March 30, 2026. The slots will allow PIA to resume its Islamabad–London Heathrow route following the lifting of European Union airspace restrictions on the carrier.
While the number of daily flights to Heathrow will see a slight temporary reduction, THY is taking proactive steps to ensure that travelers in Hillingdon and surrounding areas remain well-connected. To compensate for the Heathrow adjustments, the airline plans to launch two daily flights to London Stansted.
This expansion is particularly beneficial for the Turkish community residing in North and East London boroughs such as Enfield, Haringey, and Hackney, who often find Stansted a more convenient departure point. Additionally, THY will continue its robust service at London Gatwick with three daily flights, serving residents in Croydon and Bromley.
Despite the temporary slot return at Heathrow, THY aims to maintain its total passenger capacity across the London market. By diversifying its presence across Heathrow, Gatwick, and now Stansted, the airline is positioning itself to better serve the diverse geographical needs of the Turkish diaspora and business travelers in Westminster and Camden.
Aviation experts suggest that this flexibility allows THY to support the return of PIA to the European market while simultaneously capturing the growing demand for flights from London’s secondary airports. For travelers, this means more choices and potentially more competitive pricing for flights between London and Istanbul.
