The Turkish Consulate General in London, a vital hub for the UK’s Turkish and Kurdish communities, is officially preparing to move from its long-standing home in Knightsbridge to a modern, larger facility. The move, which has been in the planning stages for several years, is designed to meet the growing demands of a diaspora population that has expanded significantly across the capital and the UK.
For decades, the Consulate has operated out of Rutland Lodge in Rutland Gardens, a location many residents in boroughs like Enfield, Hackney, and Haringey know well. However, the constraints of the historic building have often led to long queues and limited space for the thousands of passport, visa, and legal applications processed each week.
The Consulate General is relocating to a more central and accessible site near Leicester Square/Charing Cross. This new "Service Center" approach aims to streamline digital applications while providing a more comfortable environment for face-to-face appointments.
Current Address (until the final handover): Rutland Lodge, Rutland Gardens, Knightsbridge, London SW7 1BW.
New Expected Hub: The move focuses on centralizing services in a modern office complex designed for high-volume public service, moving away from the "residential lodge" style of the previous era.
As the transition begins this month, the Consulate has issued several important updates for citizens:
Appointment Discipline: The transition period may lead to temporary changes in available slots. Residents are urged to use the online e-appointment system as far in advance as possible.
Digital First: Many services, including military service deferrals and simple document certifications, are being moved to the e-Devlet and digital consulate platforms to reduce the need for physical visits.
No Change for the Embassy: It is important to note that the Turkish Embassy (dealing with high-level diplomacy and political affairs) remains at its historic address at 43 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PA.
The relocation is seen as a major milestone for Turkish-British relations. Ambassador Osman Koray Ertaş has previously highlighted the need for a facility that reflects the "modern face of Türkiye" and provides the quality of service that the hardworking community in London deserves.
Whether you are traveling from Barnet or Redbridge, the new location is expected to be better served by the Underground network, making the trip for passport renewals or birth registrations much more convenient.
