London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced upcoming adjustments to the capital's public transport fares, with increases scheduled to take effect from March 2026. Fares for the London Underground (Tube), Elizabeth Line, DLR, and Overground services will be raised, although bus and tram ticket prices will be frozen.
Transport for London (TfL) fares are expected to see an average increase of 5.8 per cent. Mayor Khan stated that the increase is largely a condition of the £2.2 billion funding agreement made with the Government, an agreement he said was necessary to maintain vital investments in the transport network
Tube, DLR, Elizabeth Line, and Overground: Single journey ticket prices will generally increase by between 10p and 20p.
Bus and Tram: Bus and tram fares will be frozen until July 2026 as a "cost of living" measure.
Daily and Weekly Caps: To protect the most frequent travellers, there will be no change to the daily and weekly pay-as-you-go caps.
Sadiq Khan described the fare hike as a "tough" decision but argued that the condition imposed by the Government was essential for protecting the financial health of London's transport network and delivering key projects (such as Superloop 2 and Tube network upgrades).
This decision has generated widespread public discussion, particularly as it will impact the daily commuting costs for millions of people living and working in London. The fare increases are scheduled to come into effect in March 2026.
